The manager position that I interviewed for with Cool Director is officially gone. They aren’t hiring someone for it. Instead, they’re migrating me over to her team in my present Associate Manager title with a pay raise and the promise of an evaluation in March for a further promotion to the manager title. Not bad. Not exactly what I wanted, but in the ballpark and not too shabby. I hated the idea of it at first, but the more I think about it and talk to Cool Director it started growing on me very very quickly. I should have the formal offer letter later today or Monday.

Cheap drinks on me when I get my first new paycheck.

That's awesome! That basically means you got the job, since you are the only moving, even if you're not getting the full promotion.

Hey, it's a little bit of a letdown, but it's a hell of a lot better than a consolation prize... or nothing at all for that matter. Sounds like the team will be good to work with and you'll get a chance to understand the dynamic that much better.

You still rock no matter what position you're in (at work, I mean..I wouldn't know 'bout them other things).

You'll kick ass and take names and then they'll be sorry they didn't pick you and they'll try to woo you into taking it but you'll be perfectly happy in your current position that you thought you didn't want but turns out you did and you can politely give them the finger behind their backs and tell them that no thanks you're quite happy where you are but thanks of thinking of you kthxbai.
